Achievement by Dr.Roopashree Rao

D.K.Philatelic and Numismatic Association takes pride to announce that our Life member Dr.Roopashree Rao has passed the MBBS examinations and has won 5 gold medals. She has won the gold Medal for Highest marks in MBBS Course for a lady student, Highest marks in all Pre-Clinical subjects of MBBS Course, Highest marks in final year MBBS subjects, Highest marks in Final MBBS and Highest overall in the first to final MBBS Course.

Lighthouse of Namibia

 On 18 June 2010, Namibia Post released three stamps featuring lighthouses.  Pictured are the Diaz Point Lighthouse, Pelican Point Lighthouse (Walvis Bay) and Swakopmund Lighthouses.

Diaz Point Lighthouse:

Built in the year 1915, the tower of Diaz Point Lighthouse is mounted on a Hexagonal Stone base with Red & White Horizontal bands.  This lighthouse was named after the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Diaz and the lighthouse shelters the Bay of Luderitz.

Pelican Point Lighthouse (Walvis Bay):

Built in the year 1932, the Walvis Bay Pelican Lighthouse Tower is circular with Black & White Horizontal bands.  The Lantern of the Lighthouse tower is painted Red.  This lighthouse was built by the South African Government during their Administration of Walvis Bay Territory.

Swakopmund Lighthouse:

Built in the year 1903, the Swakopmund Lighthouse Tower is circular with Red & White Horizontal bands.  The lower section of the Lighthouse tower is unpainted brick and this section of the lighthouse was built in 1902.  The upper section of the lighthouse is added in 1910.  The Lighthouse is located on the North-Western Namibian coast.

Daniel Monteiro Won Silver Medal at Joburg - 2010.

Mr. Daniel Monteiro a well known Philatelist, and member of our Association has  won Silver Medal in “26th International Stamp Exhibition –Joburg -2010”  held on 27-31 Oct.2010 in Johannesburg for his collection on Waterfowls.

Mr. Monteiro also bagged several Medals at various National and World Philatelic Exhibitions held earlier. A recipient of Dist. Rajyosthava award and Several State Level honours, Mr. Daniel is an active member of  our Association. He also plays an important role in creating awareness about environment by organizing exhibitions in various institutions and organizations.

Monthly Meeting - November 2010

The monthly meeting of the D.K.Philatelic and Numismatic Association will be held on 14th November 2010, 10.30 AM at Head Post Office, Pandeshwar,Mangalore.

A Philatelic exhibition on "Children" theme for the ocassion of Children's Day will be displayed by Tapasya Bhandary, on Jawaharlal Nehru by Mr.Krishnayya and "Pictorial Cancellation of Karnataka" in view of Rajyotsava Day  by Mrs.Vidya Baglodi.
