Sad demise of Shri. Raghava Acharya

 We are deeply saddened to inform you that our life member Raghava Acharya, employee of Corporation Bank passed away on 19th April 2016.  He was a an ardent coin collector and an Artist. We pray that may his Soul rest in eternal peace pray to give the family the support which is needed in his absence.

Sad Demise of Sri. K.Ramachandra Shenoy.

We regret  to inform our members that our Life Member Sri K.Ramachandra Shenoy (77)  passed away on 29th February 2016.He was a senior, active stamp and Coin collector who had even attended  our monthly meeting of January.  We pray that may his soul rest in peace. A silent prayer was conducted in our last meeting and condolence message was passed.

Winged Beauty - One frame Exhibition in our monthly meeting.

Monthly meeting of our Association was held on 14th February 2016 at Head Post Office, Mangalore. About 30 members were present. One frame exhibit "Winged Beauty" of Master S.Abishek was exhibited at the venue. This exhibition has won Silver bronze in Karnapex-2015 and Bronze medal at

International Stamp Exhibition held at Hong Kong. 

This is what Abishek Had to say about hishobby and the exhibit:

I'm Abishek studying in 7th standard in DPS School, MRPL, Mangalore.

My father's hobby on philately interested me to collect stamps.  He told me to select a theme for my Stamp collection. And, to this, I preferred "BUTTERFLIES", the WINGED BEAUTIES.

My exhibit had won SILVER BRONZE in the State Level Philatelic Exhibition KARNAPEX-2015 held in Bangalore last year. Later on, I participated in the 31st Asian International Stamp Exhibition held in Hong Kong from 20th November 2015 to 23rd November 2015 under Youth category. This is my first participation in an International Stamp Exhibition and I was awarded BRONZE medal for my one-frame exhibit. 

The academic education, taught me only about the life-cycle of butterflies or the butterflies in a food-chain.  But, when I started collecting stamps on butterflies, I came across,

1) various butterfly and moth families

2) entomology, the study of insects

3) importance of butterflies

4) factors affecting the butterflies in our ecosystem

·       Butterflies play a number of roles in the ecosystem. 

·        They act as a pollinator and as a food source for other species.

·        They act as an important connector in an ecosystem.

·        Butterflies act as a lower member of the food chain.

·      As populations of butterfly diminish, so will populations of birds and other animals that rely on them as a food source.

·      These delicate insects are incredibly sensitive to climate change and habitat loss and require ideal conditions for their eggs to mature.

·   These insects need our help and we need their invaluable contributions to save entire ecosystems!

Philately really helped me in gaining knowledge on the theme of my collection.

Manipal University Philately and Numismatics Club.

There was an overwhelming response from young and old alike for Manipal University Philately and Numismatics Club launched here on Sunday. While the older lot were keen to see the huge collections of stamps and coins on display at the Interact building of the University, the younger ones showed interest in getting started with the hobby.

Vice Chancellor Manipal University, Dr H Vinod Bhat who is a philatelist himself, with a fairly large collection of stamps on medicine and space, launched the club officially and hoped that it would encourage people of the region to take it up as a hobby. “It has been my dream for a long time to start this club and today that dream has come true,” he said. “The Club will promote philately as a hobby amongst youngsters,” he said. “It should be an activity where all the lovers should get together at least once a month to talk, discuss and exchange stamps. This is hobby of kings and is king of hobbies”.
 

Some of the finest collectors of the region displayed their stamps and coins. Prabhakar M Kamath, President of DAKAPANA (Dakshina Kannada Philatelic and Numismatics Association) who inaugurated the exhibition had a collection of Falkland Islands which is a national awards winner.

M.K. Krishnayy’S collections which have won more than 15 national awards for flags and two national awards for postal stationary were on display. Krishnayya is a curator and guide of Corp Bank Heritage museum. Vishvesh K., his son who is the first secretary of the Club had his collection of primates, elephants, hoofed mammals and cynofelidae (wild dogs and cats). Mr Jayaprakash Rao’s collections were of pre-independence India. He also presented coins of Moghul period and post and pre-independent India. He has won national awards in stamps.
 

Baikady Srinivas Rao’s display had stamps on butterfly which won a national award. He also had Army postal covers on display. Nagendra Pai, a philatelist who won international award at Brazil in a one-frame collection on “Global Warming” last year and his recent Gandhi collection were an attraction. Ratish Udupa a pediatrician had his exhibits on Children’s Day. 

  

Daniel Monteiro’s collection of birds and water fowls which have won 10 international awards and holds a Guinness record for the most number of bird collection was yet another interesting display. He also collects stamps on monuments of India which too were presented yesterday. Mansoor Hussain has country collections on Russia. Dr GG Laxman Prabhu HoD Urology KMC Mangalore has stamps on Rotary and elephants.

Rare pictorial cancellations and coins displayed at expo: Coins from various kingdoms, which ruled Karnataka, special postal covers and pictorial cancellations were part of the philatelic and numismatic exhibition at Head Post Office in Pandeshwar in Mangaluru on Sunday.

Philatelic Workshop at Vani P.U.College.

Mr. Rayee Rajkumar, Mudubidire, member of our Association  conducted Philatelic workshop and exhibited his wide collection of stamps at Vani P.U.College Belthangady on 22-9-15. He presente PPT presentation to a large number of students on Stamp collecting.

Puttur SSP Mr T.G.Naik addressed the gathering. Workshop was inaugurated by Puttur Postal Marketing Executive Mr. Rajesh. Vani P.U.College Head Master Mr.Laxmi Narayana presided over the function.

Workshop on Coin Collection - Rayee Raj kumar

Mr.Rayee Raj Kumar conducted a workshop on collecting coins at Narayana Guru Sabha Bhavan, Paladka.

Mr.Raj Kumar conducted a workshop on coin collecting at the NSS camp held at Alva's Ayurvedic Medical College, Moodbidri. on 12th August 2015. He spoke about the advantages of hobbies in the present times to keep away form bad habits. The Exhibition included various coins and currency from India and other countries.
