DAKAPANA - Newsletter


Dear Members,

Here we are back with our news letter "DAKAPANA", which is being circulated among our members. Mr Pranab Mukherjee , Finance minister of India released a set of Coins on Former Union Minister Dr C Subramaniam on 28 Aug 2010 at Coimbatore , Tamil Nadu ..The coins are of the denomination of Rs.100 and Rs.5.

50th Annoversary of OPEC

Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) founded in 1960, was celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark OPEC's 50th anniversary, the 12 member OPEC countries will be issuing the Special Anniversary Stamps.

In this respect, Kuwait released the OPEC 50th Anniversary commemorative stamps on 20-Jun-2010.  The stamp has the festivity's logo written in both Arabic and English.  The stamps were priced in 25 fils, 50 fils and 150 fils.  The stamp design won the first place in OPEC's Anniversary competition.

USPS commemorated the pioneering filmmaker OSCAR MICHEAUX on a U.S. postage stamp, taking his place as the 33rd person honored in the popular Black Heritage commemorative stamp series.

OSCAR MICHEAUX (1884-1951), wrote, directed, produced and distributed more than 40 movies during the first half of the 20th century, when African-American filmmakers were extremely rare and support for their work was scarce.  His entreperneurial spirit and independent vision continue to inspire new generations of filmmakers and artists.

Green Renewable Energy Development

The right way to exploit and develop these forms of energy sources will reduce the mankind's over dependence on Non-Renewable Energy Sources.  This will give our Planet the chance to breathe and ultimately to survive.

 
Greece Hellenic Post on 26-Apr-2010 released a set of 6 Commemorative Stamps on GREEN RENEWABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT.  The stamps depict the various forms of in-exhaustible Renewable Energy Sources available in the nature viz., Solar Energy (Euro 0.01), Hydro Power (Euro 0.40), Wind Energy (Euro 0.58), Self contained Man (euro 0.72), Wave Power (euro 2.43) and Bio Energy (euro 2.50).

News in Pics - Exhibition by M.K.Krishnayya

An Exhibition of Stamps, Coins and Currencies was displayed at the Hajee Abdulla Memorial Hall, Zonal Office, Corporation Bank, Udupi by Mr.M.K.Krishnayya, Officer, Corporation Bank and President of DKPNA 0n 17th April 2010 to celebrate 105th  Founders Day.

The Exhibition was inaugurated by Mr.P.Thippeswamy, Senior Suptd. of Posts,  Udupi. He spoke about the importance of Philately and the various facilities available through the Posts .  Mr.K.N.V.Prabhu, Assistant General Manager and Mr.M.G.Bhandarkar, Deputy General Manager, Corporation Bank, Zonal Office, Udupi were also present. Mr.Krishnayya also spoke on his collection. Members of DKPNA Mr.Jayaprakash, Mr. M.R.Pavanje, Mr.Mansoor, Mr.Daniel Montherio, Mr. Vishwesh and others were present.

Mr.Krishnayya exhibited his stamps of various topics like Flags, Alphabets of English, Hindi and Kannada and other stamps. Coins and Currencies of different nations also formed a part of this exhibition. The Exhibition was open to all the public after the inauguration till 5.30 PM and the public response was good. Dealers were also present and were flocked by interested buyers.

Energy and its Resources - Exhibition.

In our last monthly meeting held at Head Post Office, Pandeshwar, Mangalore, on 14th March, an exhibition on "Energy and its Resources" was displayed by K Sridhar.This exhibit won a Topaz award at the recently held STAMPMANIA 2009 - One frame National level exhibition at Gujarat.

Members of the Association and the public were present in large numbers to view the same.

INDIPEX – 2011

Dear Members,

The world philatelic exhibition will be held from 12th to 18th Feb. 2011, to commemorate the centenary of world's first airmail.It will be organized by INDIA POST in Collaboration with PCI and under Patronage Of FIP and under auspices of FIAP.

Details of Indipex 2011 are now available on F.I.P web site. There are 12 class and various sub classes in competitive class. Persons who have secured minimum of 75 marks i.e. large silver medal are eligible to participate and persons who have secured mini-mum of 70 marks in youth class are eligible to participate. Evaluation of exhibits shall be done in accordance with various F.I.P regulations.

Tray Gajrath Mahotsava - Special cover.

To commemorate the Shri 1008 Shrimajjinendra Jinbimb Panchkalyanak Pratishtha & Tray Gajrath Mahotsava,a special cover has been issued at Satna (M.P.) on 16th January 2010. Indian Postal Department provided a special cancellation on this occasion. The special cover depicts colourful Gajrath alongwith the images of 11 feet high idol of Bhagwan Shantinath situated in the Satna Digamber Jain Mandir and Pujya Acharya Vidhyasagar Ji Maharaj. Special cancellation depicts image of Bhagwan Parshwanath.

This special cover was released in the grand function of Dhvajarohan and Inauguration Ceremony of Panchkalyanak on 16th January 2010 morning by famous Industrialist of Rajsthan Shri Ashok Patni in the auspisious presence of Pujya Acharya Vidhyasagar Ji Maharaj. Shri A. K. Jain, Asstt. superintendent of Postoffices, Rewa Division and office bearers of Central India Philatelic Society were also present on this occasion. Central India Philatelic Society was instrumental in issuance of this Special Cover and Special Cancellation.
