Monthly meeting of our Association was held on 12th July 2015 at Head Post Office, Pandeshwar, Mangalore. Mr.K.Sridhar exhibited his collection of special cancellations at the venue.

Cancellation, which is a postal marking applied on a Postage stamp or a Postal stationery to deface the stamp and prevent its re-use. The postal cancellations come in a huge variety of designs, shapes, sizes and colours. There are many types of Cancellation(s) viz., Bull’s eye cancellation, CTOs, Duplex Cancel, FDC special cancellation, Flag cancellation(s), Machine cancellation, Pictorial cancellation(s), RPO Cancel(s), Ship Cancel(s), Slogan Cancellation(s) to name a few.
The Pictorial cancellation(s) provide wide publicity to the History, Heritage, Leader(s), Tourism, Science & Technology and Flora & Fauna etc. And they are provided ONLY at the Post Offices which are located in such places where they are released.
My thematic exhibit India thru’ the eyes of Marcophily brings out the Indian Picture Cancellation(s) of Permanent nature released from the year 1960. There are approx. 205 PPCs (with certain multiple designs) (Available resources). They are classified under 10 categories viz., Flora, Wildlife, Science, History, Heritage, Religion, Tourism, Education, Personality, Architecture.
